‘In Our Backyard’ | STARTTS

STARTTS is a specialist, not-for-profit organisation providing culturally relevant psychological treatment and support. It also provides community interventions to help people and communities heal the scars of torture and refugee trauma to rebuild their lives in Australia. STARTTS fosters a positive recovery environment by providing training in services, advocacy and policy work.

Local teenagers accessing STARTTS programs participated in two workshops at Unique State Art Space, creating Gelli and sun prints from local plants. The works created are intertwined throughout the mural and woven into the backgrounds. These elements help tie together contributions by other groups and include repeating shapes and forms from leaf silhouettes.

Participating Artists: Gardinya Al Murad, Pe latt Gumring, Majida Haji, Mardela Malallah and Sakvan Sleman
