Unique State Art Space is a studio that combines a passion for printmaking and community. It provides printmaking workshops and 1:1 and small-group art therapy with local artist and Registered Art Therapist Elaine Camlin. Elaine develops each program with a drive to support and grow regional creative practices and contribute to the range of artistic and well-being services offered to all ages, abilities and interests.
‘In Our Backyard’ celebrates the region’s creative, cultural and diverse community, bringing together over 60 artists who engage with Unique State through social groups, after-school classes and art therapy. Over six weeks, individuals, groups and contributing organisations participated in an art workshop with Elaine, creating work to contribute to the project. As part of Unique State’s values, it was pivotal that every participating artist was paid and celebrated equally for their contribution, regardless of experience and background. Celebrating works on paper and processes unique to Unique State’s workshops, artists explored non-toxic etching, monoprints, Gelli prints, watercolours, oil pastels, pencils and pens to explore the local environment. Unique State proudly presents a work that recognises these artists’ talent, diversity and creative voices in a new playground space that fosters growth, fun, family and community.
