‘In Our Backyard’ | The Art Factory
The Art Factory is a nurturing environment where artists can be themselves and have autonomy. The Art Factory provides artists with guidance, mentoring, networks and career paths to assist in further establishing and maintaining a contemporary art practice. The studio is non-directive; artists are encouraged to develop their visual language using various mediums and styles.
Art Factory artists’ Raine Mitter and Lilly Salmon visited Unique State Art Space for the day to create new works for their contribution to the ‘In Our Backyard’ mural.
Raine and Lilly developed oil pastel and watercolour drawings inspired by local flora and fauna. Raine is an energetic and dedicated artist attending the Art Factory for the past three years and is interested in drawing, painting and printmaking. Raine created a detailed drawing of an echidna, then moved into expressive, colourful imagery of grevillea. Lilly has attended the Art Factory for two years and has facilitated several successful and inspiring printmaking workshops for primary school-aged children. Her recent art practice focuses on her pets, and she was keen to contribute a magpie and koala to the mural.
